INFORMATION ON THE SAFE USE OF ART AND CRAFT MATERIALS:

Martin/F. Weber Co. is proud to be a leader in the continuing effort toward improved safety and health labeling for art and craft materials. Under a national consensus standard, (ASTM D-4236) developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials, and U.S. Government Regulations which reference this standard, Martin/F. Weber Co. product formulas are reviewed by an independent toxicologist who is a specialist in the area of art and craft materials. Any potential for adverse health effects identified by this review, as well as safe use instructions, are placed on the product label.

The Art and Creative Materials Institute, an independent non-profit organization, monitors our compliance with these requirements and when they are met, authorizes the use of one of the seals shown below. Products that are found to be non-toxic carry the AP Seal. Products that require cautionary labeling carry the CL Seal.

These seals are your assurance that Martin/F. Weber Co. products are labeled with the best information we have available on how to enjoy them safely. As new information becomes available, we will incorporate it in our product labels. Please look for The Art & Creative Materials Institute Seals on products you purchase for yourself, or when specifying purchase for school bids, etc. The Institute Seals assure you of maximum safety and product quality. Art and craft materials, when used with common sense precautions provide countless hours of safe, creative expression and pleasure. Martin/F. Weber Co. is dedicated to ensuring that professional artists' teachers, students and "Sunday Painters" who use art materials can do so in a safe, enjoyable and rewarding manner.

Please follow and teach these common sense guidelines for safe use of art and craft materials:

1. Wash hands thoroughly before eating.
2. Keep solvents covered or sealed when not in use, well out of reach of small children and away from heat, sparks, or flames.
3. Be sure to ventilate and circulate the air well in the studio or classroom, particularly when using solvents.
4. Use an exhaust fan if necessary.
5. When using aerosols or spraying, ventilate the studio or classroom well and either let the exhaust vapors out through a window or use a spray booth.
6. If solvents are splashed on the skin or eyes, promptly wash the affected area thoroughly with soap and water.
7. If using powdered paints or pigments, avoid inhalation of powder, preferably by using an approved face mask for dusts. Never sleep in your studio without first sealing or disposing of all solvents and painting materials.
8. Do not put brushes in your mouth to shape them.
9. Keep adult art materials out of reach of children.
10. Keep art materials in their original container or clearly label alternate container used. Keep paint, soiled rags or paper in an airtight metal container until they can be properly disposed of.

When specifying or purchasing art materials for institutional use, carefully consider the ultimate consumer, especially in cases where products may be used in nursery or grade school classes or where physically or mentally handicapped persons may be unable to read or understand safety precautions.

Whenever possible, Martin/F. Weber Co. uses ingredients that do not present a potential for health hazards. There are, however, some products that cannot be made non-toxic without sacrificing our commitment to quality performance. When used in properly supervised and controlled conditions, they can be safely enjoyed.
